Piles(hemorrhoids)

For the treatment of piles several techniques are
possible as described in the
folder .
In the example mentioned below sclerotherapy is used . A fluid is injected in
the piles which ensures that the piles will shrink and disappear. It is a
treatment which is frequently given in a number of times with an interval of
some weeks. Sometimes the treatment must be repeated after course of time. It is
a generally little charging intervention which is ready within some
minutes. After the injection some blood loss may appear, because it is injected
in the piles.

For an optimum visibility cold
light is used(1). This is linked through a cable with the proctoscope (2). This
exists of two parts: an interior compact part which has a tapered end for
easy introduction of the outer hollow part. Petroleum jelly is applied on the proctoscope to facilitate introducing
even more (3). Hereafter the
lightcable is connected to the proctoscope (4).

Introducing the proctoscope is done here in a side
position (5), but it is also possible in knee/elbow position or with the patiënt
lying on the back with elevated legs. After removing the interior part of the
proctoscope one can look in the last 12-15cm of the anal canal (6). If there are
piles present like on image 7, injection can be done like on image 8. Because
after injection swelling and (meant) inflammation arises, preferably one pile is
treated at a time. By treating more piles at the same time too much inflammatory
response can arise with too much chance on pain.
