Broken ellbow (olecranon)
A fracture of the olecranon is almost always reason for operation. Because the triceps muscle is inserted in the cap of the olecranon distraction follows in case of fracture. The fracture in this case (1) is one week old with signs of hematoma (2).

After opening of the skin and preparing the fracture parts (3) reposition is done with a clamp (4). Then two pins are drilled to maintain the position (5,6).

Then a metal wire is pulled through a drillhole and a figure of eight is made around the pins and tightened. This squeezes the fracture parts together (7-10).

The pins are bend en cut and driven in the bone with a hammer (11-14)

The several layers of the wound are closed with resorbable sutures and the skin is closed with staples. The x-ray shows the result, with a restored joint surface.
