Localisation procedure

The localisation procedure is used for removing non-palpabel lesions that look suspicious on a x-ray of the breastgland(mammografy). The radiologist introduces  a thin iron wire with a little hook in the suspected area and leaves this behind so the surgeon can locate the suspected area and remove it. Introducing the iron wire is done without anaesthesia in the radiology department. Removing the suspected tissue is done by the surgeon in the operation room under complete anaesthesia.
