A toe nail ingrowth on both sides

Anaesthesia on both sides of the toe basis. With phenol, a chemical fluid, the nail bed is partially damaged, in a way that the nail will remain narrower in the future and will no longer cause ingrowth in the skin. Phenol gives a chemical combustion. The skin around the area to treat is for this reason protected with petroleum jelly, preventing blisters.

4. Introducing petroleum jelly on the skin around. Introduction of the swabs. The swabs are introduced two times for the duration of 1 minute. 8.After the treatment. The wound must be treated during a number of weeks with bathing or showering twice daily. Afterwards a dry plaster can be applied. The wound will heal by inflammation as a normal respons. This means production of (purulent) woundfluid for 2-3 weeks. This is a normal phenomenon! After three weeks the wound is in most cases dry.

One plaster after the treatment is generally sufficient.

Because there is more chance of bleeding with this method a rubber band is applied around the toe. The nail is incised with scissors.

The wound can be sutured or, as in this case, be left open. A pressure bandage is applied.
