Chronic hidradenitis
One of the treatments for chronic suppurative hidradenitis is a selective resection of the sweatglands. Skoog and Thyresson were the first to describe this method. After a skin incision in the armpit as much as possibel subcutaneous tissue containing the sweatglands is removed. Then the skin, that has become thin as in a skintransplant, is sutured again. Partial necrosis may develop but in the end healing will occur.
In this example there is a chronic inflammation in the left armpit . Th operation is performed under general anesthesia and after the skin incision the subcutaneous layer is approached (1-3)
The subcutaneous layer is removed (4-7).
AFter this the skin is sutured and a drain is left behind (8-10).
The situation after two weeks(11- 12).
